Gotcha Day April 4th 2005
I love talking about our gotcha day.
I remember getting up in Nanning that Monday morning thinking today, I will become a mommy to a little girl!
After eating breakfast we went back to our room to make sure we had all the things we needed to take with us.
Casey my oldest son who traveled with me wanted to make sure we took the button with Kailee's picture on it. He said he wanted to make sure we would get the right little baby girl.
I went through the diaper bag one last time. Made sure we had both camera's. (We didn't have our Video camera. One of my others son's forgot it at a friends. I didn't want to stress myself out anymore then I was so I just let it go.)
We made sure we the gifts for the nannies. So the check list was the necessary paper work, diaper bag, camera's and gifts.
We had to meet our group and 2 guides down stairs in the beautiful hotel lobby. We had an awesome group of 24 people. Some of us had to sit down in the lobby and wait. I was so ready to leave and get my baby....)
Our group had become so close just in the few days we had been together with out the girls. We were so excited for everyone to receive their daughters.
We finally boarded the bus and we sat waiting to take off. One of our guides started to talk to us to let us know that might be scared and could shut down for a few days. Maybe they wouldn't eat or have a BM for a few days. I can remember going by run down businesses thinking to myself this is the Capital of this province!
I remember the smells to this day.
Then finally we pulled up to this place that had steps running up to the door. I saw this sign above the door that said "Hotel Lottery." That stuck me funny.
I would sign my emails "Kailee's Luckiest Mommy." Let me tell you I felt like the luckiest mommy to travel to China to get a daughter!
Once we went inside the building we went to the Elevator and went up a few floors. We walked down a long hall that was aged . We finally went into this big room we stood there for a while. The room had a bunch of different flags on one side of the room. We noticed right away the American flag was there. Then in the middle of the room stood a podium. Then I can remember seeing chairs and other seats toward the back of the room.
Then someone said the girls were across the hall in a room. I ran up to the door and looked across the hall I could see some of the girls sitting on nannies laps. I didn't see Kailee...
Then is was time to start the name calling. Everyone backed up by the chairs and the names started... this is when things became foggy for me.
Then I can remember Jennifer saying "Robin they said your name." I remember going up and someone handing me my Daughter. She was simply beautiful and she started Crying. I couldn't tell you what the nanny looked like or if she said anything to me. I just knew I had the daughter I had dreamed of for so long.
I took her out the other door so I could look at her and try to calm her down. I checked to make sure she had all her fingers and toes. She was wearing a mickey mouse sweat shirt and pants. Her socks were pink and blue striped. It looked like they just took them out of the package and put them on the girls. You could tell they were brand new and never washed before. I was kinda disappointed that she wasn't wearing something in the form of a Chinese outfit.
I remember someone did handed me a bag of formula and a dirty old bottle.
After a few minutes out in the hall I walked back into the big room to join the rest of our group. We stood there talking about how beautiful the girl were. Then our guides said it's time to leave.
Kailee was still upset, hot and scared she was trying to hide in me. I held her close to make sure she felt as safe as possible. When we got back on the bus she did fall asleep. When we got back to our room Casey and I laid her on the bed to take a better look at her. After she woke up we decided to give her a bath. She didn't like that at all but she needed to soak in the tub for a little bit before I dressed her up in a pink little outfit and put a bow in her hair.
She looked so beautiful.....
She was coming around as long as we gave her Cheerios's.
She wanted nothing to do with her bottle or formula.
We had only a few hours before we had to meet in the hallway for a family photo.
Kailee did a great job sitting on mommies lap.
Some of our group stayed in the hallway by the elevators and let the girls hang out with each other. It was so nice to see the girls together and coming around.
Kailee was fine as long as no one else looked at her our tried to touch her. Only I could do that... NOT EVEN her brother could touch or look at her. That was very hard on him and he was hoping it would get better as the days went on. (It didn't) The day was even more special because it was also Casey's 20th birthday.
We spent a lot of time with our group by the elevators on the floor.
Kailee is suppose to be the oldest of our girls. I don't know if I believe that but that's O.K. she likes being the big sister of our Guiping sissy's.
All the girls were between 13.5-14.5 months old on Gotcha day.
Kailee never did take a bottle from me. I even had our guide try to make to give her a bottle but she didn't wanted nothing to do with it. So we had her drink right out of the glass cup. I also used a dropper for water.
She didn't seem like she felt that good when we received her she had an upper respiratory thing going. I was freaking out because I didn't know what to do if she needed a doctor. For god sakes we were in China. I wanted to jump on the next plane and go home to our ped doctor. Well that couldn't happen so we didn't do much while in Nanning.
When we got to the White Swan we went straight to the doctor that was at the hotel. She gave us meds and teas to help with the coughing and choking spells. I did give her the meds but the teas scared me so I passed on them. Casey had to also visited the doctor because he was getting a sinus infection. We were so glad to be at the White Swan.
Wow I have gone on an on I love talking about our gotcha day. I wish I could live it over and over again what and awesome feeling that day was.
Things I would do different:
1) Take a video camera and have it set up to catch every move while getting Kailee.
2) Take pictures of the Nanny during the hand off.
3) Try to talk to the Nanny's to find out more about the girls.
4) Take my own lap top.
I also wish I would have read more blogs and story's before our gotcha day. I would have been better prepared.
But it all turned out and we are a forever happy family now. Kailee is still a mommies girl and I love every minute of it.

Baby Shower for Sweet Lexi
Our dear friend Amy will become a mommy again in less then a month! We want to be part of this celebration so we will be having a Virtual Shower for her!Lexi is in China, and will be 19 1/2 months on Gotcha' Day!She is a peanut, but Mom is hoping she will be wearing 18 month clothing.The shower will run from today May 5th - Friday May 16th.Our first shower game is to share your Gotch'a Day experience with Amy!Hopefully, this will give Amy some idea of what this incredible day will hold for her!Blog your experience on your blog but make sure you let us know that you are joining us so that we can check your stories out! Virtual Baby Shower
I get to host a fun Virtual Baby Shower for my friend, Amy! I am so excited to celebrate the adoption of their daughter Lexi! Amy should be traveling by the end of May. I have never hosted a Virtual Shower so if there is anyone out there who has some suggestions please feel free to leave a comment! I want to make this special, but have no idea of what I am doing! Virtual Baby Shower
I get to host a fun Virtual Baby Shower for my friend, Amy! I am so excited to celebrate the adoption of their daughter Lexi! Amy should be traveling by the end of May.
